Hexamine

Hexamine

Hexamine, commonly known as hexamethylenetetramine, methenamine, or urotropin, is a colourless to white, odourless, crystalline powder. It is made industrially by combining ammonia with formaldehyde, and the reaction can take place in either a gas phase or a solution.

Hexamine is primarily used in the manufacturing process of powdered or liquid phenolic resin formulations. We can use these products as binders, for instance, in clutch and brake linings, non-woven fabrics, abrasive products, formed parts generated by the moulding processes, and fireproof materials, where the moulding compounds of phenolic resin are included as a hardening component.
